Ready to Display

A single, sturdy hand-painted piece — no assembly, no fuss. Set it on a desk or shelf and it holds its happy pose, ready to collect and show off.

No turtle looks quite like this one. The pig-nosed turtle is the last living member of an ancient family — a freshwater turtle that traded webbed feet for true flippers and grew a soft, snorkel-like snout straight off a cartoon pig.

The Last of Its Kind

Every other member of its family, the Carettochelyidae, is extinct. Carettochelys insculpta is the sole survivor — a living branch of the turtle tree with no close cousins left.

A Snorkel for a Nose

That fleshy, upturned snout works like a built-in snorkel, letting the turtle breathe at the surface while staying almost fully submerged. It is also covered in sensors for finding food in murky water.

It Swims Like the Sea

Unlike other freshwater turtles that paddle with webbed feet, the pig-nosed turtle has flattened flippers like a sea turtle — making it a powerful, graceful swimmer in the rivers of New Guinea and northern Australia.

A Soft-Edged Shell

Its shell is covered in leathery skin rather than hard scutes, giving it a smooth, rounded look that this plump figure leans into perfectly.

“Part river turtle, part sea turtle, part cartoon pig — and entirely one of a kind.”
