A GIANT IN THE MAKING · the male
A Series of Laugh and Grow
Real animals, reimagined plump and cheerful — painted in lifelike detail, sculpted impossibly cute.
Chubby & Full of Character
Rounded, soft and undeniably cute — yet every scale, wrinkle and marking is hand-painted true to the real animal. The reaction it gets in person is always the same: so detailed, and so adorable.
Ready to Display
A single, sturdy hand-painted piece — no assembly, no fuss. Set it on a desk or shelf and it holds its happy pose, ready to collect and show off.
Do not let the palm-sized figure fool you: the Sulcata is the largest tortoise on the African mainland and the third-largest in the world, capable of topping a hundred pounds. This is the male — and under that placid shell hides a surprisingly competitive streak.
A True Heavyweight
Only the giant tortoises of the Galapagos and Aldabra grow larger. A full-grown Sulcata can reach 30 inches and well over 100 pounds — a desert tank rendered here in its most huggable form.
The Male’s Secret Weapon
See the forked projection under the throat? That is the gular scute, and males use it like a jousting lance — ramming and levering rivals onto their backs in slow-motion battles over territory and mates.
Master Burrower
To escape the killing heat of the Sahel, Sulcatas dig burrows that can run many feet deep, creating cool refuges that shelter countless other desert creatures too. It is a landscape engineer in a shell.
Built for Drought
Everything about the Sulcata — thick scaled legs, a domed water-storing body, an appetite for dry grass — is tuned for one of the harshest belts of land on the planet, just south of the Sahara.
