Ready to Display

A single, sturdy piece that stands on its own included base — no assembly, no fuss. Set it on a desk or shelf and it holds its happy pose, ready to collect and show off.

With a broad body banded in black and gold, the Siamese tiger fish is one of freshwater’s most striking predators — and one of its most sought-after. Prized by aquarists across Asia, it has been so heavily collected that it is now rare in the very rivers it once ruled.

Bars That Mean Business

The bold vertical bars — usually five or six — break up the fish’s outline among sunken roots and shadow, letting it vanish before an ambush. Aquarists prize specimens whose bands are the darkest, cleanest and most symmetrical.

A Patient Ambush Hunter

The tiger fish hangs almost motionless, often tilted head-down among submerged wood, then engulfs a passing fish or shrimp with a single sudden gulp as its mouth expands into a tube. Stillness, then lightning.

From River to Aquarium

Fierce demand and shrinking habitat have made the true Datnioides pulcher genuinely rare in the wild; much of what circulates in the hobby is a related datnoid. The real thing remains a premium, carefully managed prize.

Rounded Down to a Smile

This species already carries a deep, rounded body, so the plump reinterpretation barely has to exaggerate — turning a river ambusher into something you’d happily keep smiling on your desk, every scale still hand-painted true to life.

“All the menace of a river predator, rounded down to a smile.”
