Radar Ears

The serval has the largest ears, relative to head size, of any cat. They are sensitive enough to detect rodents moving through dense grass — or even underground — letting the serval locate a meal it cannot see.

Built on Stilts

Its legs are the longest of any cat in proportion to its body, raising its eyes above the grass and powering a high, pinpoint pounce that drops onto prey from above, pinning it with both forepaws.

The Efficiency Champion

Where a lion may succeed in roughly one hunt in four, the serval connects on about half its attempts — one of the most effective hunters in the animal kingdom, catching many small prey across a single night.

A Wild Specialist

Sometimes mistaken for a cheetah cub, the serval is a wild grassland specialist, not a pet. Its striking spotted-and-striped coat, faithfully rendered here, is built for the dappled cover of its hunting grounds.
