THE JESUS LIZARD · runs on water
A Series of Laugh and Grow
Real animals, reimagined plump and cheerful — painted in lifelike detail, sculpted impossibly cute.
Chubby & Full of Character
Rounded, soft and undeniably cute — yet every scale, wrinkle and marking is hand-painted true to the real animal. The reaction it gets in person is always the same: so detailed, and so adorable.
Ready to Display
A single, sturdy hand-painted piece — no assembly, no fuss. Set it on a desk or shelf and it holds its happy pose, ready to collect and show off.
Bright emerald green and crowned with elegant plumes, the green basilisk has one truly miraculous trick: when startled, it can dash across the surface of a pond or stream on its hind legs, earning it the nickname the ‘Jesus Christ lizard.’
Running on Water
Special fringed toes and blazing speed let the basilisk slap the water fast enough to stay on top of it, sprinting across the surface for several yards before it swims — one of nature’s great escape tricks.
Crowned With Plumes
Males carry tall crests on the head, back and tail, giving this jewel-green lizard a distinctly dragon-like, plumed silhouette.
A Waterside Life
It lives in rainforest along rivers and streams, basking on branches over the water and dropping in to run or swim away from danger.
Emerald Beauty
Its brilliant green coloring and elegant crests make the green basilisk one of the most beautiful lizards of Central America — here rounded into a plump, plumed figure.
