Often confused with the scarlet macaw, the red-and-green macaw is larger and deeper red, with a broad band of green across the wing. One of the biggest macaws of all, it’s known for a surprisingly gentle temperament to match its grand size.

Its deep crimson body is crossed by a distinctive band of green on the wings before giving way to blue — the feature that separates it from the similar scarlet macaw.
