Bandai’s GASHAPON department just revealed a collaboration with Canon to release the Canon Miniature Camera Collection, and I am officially clearing a dedicated zone for these tiny masterpieces.
Look, Canon has been the king of the mountain since 1937, and seeing their history shrunk down into 4 cm (appx. 1.56 inch) models is giving me chills. We aren’t just talking about generic cameras here; we are talking about the heavy hitters that defined photography. My shelf is basically going to become a museum of glass and shutters. I’m already visualizing exactly where the 1952 IV Sb (4Sb) is going to sit alongside that beautiful Serenar 50mm F1.8 I lens.
What really has me hyped is the variety in this set. We’re getting the 1965 7S with that legendary 50mm F0.95 lens and the 1971 F-1 paired with the FD55mm F1.2 S.S.C. ASPHERICAL. But it’s not all vintage! They’re throwing in the EOS 5D Mark II—the camera that basically changed digital filmmaking—and the brand-new 2024 flagship, the EOS R1, complete with a tiny white RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z lens.
Each model is only about 4 cm wide, but the detail looks incredible. Bandai is even making the lenses detachable! Can you imagine the display possibilities? I’m going to spend hours just swapping lenses and setting up the perfect miniature studio scene. Honestly, the wait until the third week of February 2026 is going to be brutal. My shelf is currently empty and waiting, and every time I look at that gap, I’m just reminded that these ‘new kings’ aren’t here yet.
If you’re a photography nerd or a miniature enthusiast, you already know the struggle. I’m prepared to move mountains (or at least move my other mecha figures) to make sure these five cameras have a prime spot. These are the kind of collectibles that make you rethink your entire layout. I’ve got the IV Sb, the 7S, the F-1, the 5D Mark II, and the R1 all locked in my sights. 2026 can’t come fast enough!
