The Detail on this Aoshima GMK Godzilla Is Absolutely Haunting My Dreams

I’ve been staring at the prototype shots of Aoshima’s new PLAfig. Godzilla (2001) for an hour and the texture is making my skin crawl in the best way possible.

Look, I’ve seen a lot of Godzilla figures in my time, but there is something uniquely terrifying about the 2001 version from Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. Known to us fans as the Sokogeki-Goji, this is the version possessed by the restless spirits of the Pacific War, and Aoshima is absolutely nailing that ‘vengeful god’ energy with their new PLAfig. series. I have been obsessively staring at these high-res sculpt photos, and man, the detail is just suffocating.

They brought in the legend RYO (Nendoseijin) to handle the sculpt, and you can really tell. I’m looking at the way those scales fold over the neck and the sheer mass in the legs—it’s pure muscle and malice. Those iconic white eyes? They look like they’re staring right through my soul. Since this is a plastic model kit, it comes molded in a deep, moody gray, which means I’m going to have a field day with the dry brushing to really make those ridges pop.

I’m honestly already planning my painting setup for 2026. The kit stands at 13 cm (appx. 5.07 inch), which is that perfect ‘desk companion’ size where it doesn’t take up the whole room but still demands your attention. It’s a non-articulated kit, which I actually prefer for a sculpt this intricate—no ugly joints breaking up that beautiful, rugged skin texture.

And can we talk about the extras? They are actually including the ‘Heart’ part—that chilling final shot from the movie where Godzilla‘s heart is still beating on the ocean floor. That is the kind of deep-cut fan service that makes me want to pre-order this immediately. If you manage to snag the Aoshima Online Shop limited version, you even get clear parts for the dorsal fins to simulate that atomic glow prep.

June 2026 feels like a lifetime away, but for a sculpt this high-end from the PLAfig. line, I’m willing to wait. I’ve probably zoomed in on the snout and the teeth at least fifty times today. The way the light hits those individual dorsal plates… it’s just peak monster design.
