Man, I am still buzzing from the absolute visual feast that was Hideaki Anno’s Shin Masked Rider. While everyone is eyeing the Cyclone, I’ve been quietly hoping we’d get the villains too. Well, the toy gods have spoken! TAMASHII NATIONS just dropped the reveal for the S.H.Figuarts Spider-Aug (also known as Kumo-Aug or 蜘蛛強化人), and it looks every bit as menacing as he did in that opening forest chase!
For those who might need a refresher, Spider-Aug is the high-ranking SHOCKER member who kicks off the movie by hunting down Takeshi Hongo and Ruriko Midorikawa. He’s the organization’s first human-insect hybrid, a ‘gentleman’ who absolutely loathes humans and prefers to hunt his prey with chilling patience. I mean, look at that design—it’s the perfect blend of classic 1971 ‘Spider Man’ vibes and modern, gritty bio-mechanical horror.
The S.H.Figuarts version looks like a masterclass in sculpt work. The mechanical, gas-mask-inspired helmet is reproduced with insane detail, and they haven’t skimped on the complex web patterns across the entire suit. My favorite part? The articulation! Look at that prototype pulling off the deep crouch pose. The way the waist bends and those legs splay out—it captures his insectoid movements perfectly. I’m already imagining posing him dodging kicks mid-air.
Bandai is still keeping the price and release date under wraps for now, but seeing the prototype in this state means we hopefully won’t have to wait too much longer. My display shelf is already trembling at the thought of SHOCKER’s cleanup crew moving in. Better start clearing some space now, because you know this guy is going to be a must-have for the Shin Masked Rider lineup!
