The Portrait.Of.Pirates ワンピース “Evolutionary History” モンキー・D・ルフィ〝ギア5〟 (Monkey D. Luffy Gear 5) is a painted finished product from Megahouse. It releases in October 2026 for a reference price of 22,000 Japanese Yen (approximately $145 USD). This figure stands at about 26 cm (approximately 10.2 inches).
Capturing Nika’s Whimsy
This isn’t just another Gear 5 figure; it’s an evolution, a vibrant declaration of freedom. Standing tall at 26 cm (about 10.2 inches), Luffy is sculpted in a profoundly dynamic, almost chaotic pose, perfectly reflecting the “most whimsical ability” description by the Five Elders. The way his arm extends back, then loops around his head, feels genuinely free-spirited, like a character sprung directly from an old-school cartoon. This piece truly embodies the playful chaos of the Sun God Nika.
Sculptural Excellence in Motion
The sculptors, BOSQUE and Pinpoint, didn’t miss a beat with this rendition of Luffy’s awakened form. We’re seeing precise muscle definition on his abdomen and the subtle, fluid wrinkles in his clothing, a stark and effective contrast to the smooth, rubbery texture of his elongated arms. It’s that masterful blend of grounded anatomical detail and exaggerated cartoon physics that makes this particular pose sing. They truly nailed the visual language of Gear 5, portraying both its power and its unhinged joy.
Gradient Finishes and Kinetic Presence
Colorist t2y, also from Pinpoint, applied refined gradient painting that really accentuates the figure’s kinetic energy and its distinctive white hue. The subtle shading transitions across Luffy’s body enhance the perception of movement and form, preventing the all-white design from appearing flat. That massive smoke effect base doesn’t just support the figure; it’s an integral part of the narrative, giving the entire piece a sense of explosive, upward momentum and ethereal presence. This isn’t just a static display; it’s an explosion of power, enhanced by sophisticated color transitions that bring the animation to life.
The Definitive Gear 5 Moment
Having seen Megahouse’s previous WA-MAXIMUM rendition, this “Evolutionary History” piece pushes the boundaries even further for expressive freedom and dynamic presentation. This figure embodies Luffy’s transformation into the “incarnation of freedom,” offering a more unbridled and joyous interpretation than prior attempts. The potential to pair this Luffy with the upcoming “Jewelry Bonney: The Most Free Future” to recreate iconic Egghead Island scenes is a collector’s dream, promising an even more compelling narrative display. It’s a statement piece that confidently declares Nika’s awakened might, positioning itself as a pivotal entry in any serious One Piece collection.
The Collector’s Survival Guide: How to Justify This
The Collector Math: Gear 5 is Luffy’s most powerful form, and he spends it laughing and turning everything into rubber. That’s ultimate power used purely for fun, which is exactly my plan for this $145. I’m living the Nika lifestyle.
How to tell your wife: Luffy’s ultimate form is literally a guy laughing and bouncing around. If this figure makes me even half that happy, that’s $145 for a better mood in this house. You’re welcome in advance.
How to tell your parents: You always said I should aim for the top. Gear 5 is the top, the peak of Luffy’s evolution, and it’s 26 centimeters tall. I’m finally following your career advice, in figure form.
How to tell your kids: Gear 5 Luffy is made of rubber, so he bounces, but this figure is not made of rubber. If you drop him, he will not bounce back, and neither will your tablet time. Physics only works for Nika.
This “Evolutionary History” Gear 5 Luffy is more than a 20th-anniversary celebration; it’s a bold artistic statement that nails the character’s profound shift. Megahouse continues to prove why P.O.P remains a benchmark for One Piece collectors, and this Nika interpretation is a triumphant addition that will command any display.
