A New Benchmark in Mecha Modeling

SCHNEIDER NACHTREIHER/40E Close-Range Assault Type genuinely exceeded my expectations. KOTOBUKIYA is taking cues from their excellent legacy ‘V.I.’ series but scaling things up for this new ‘V.I.O.S.’ line, and judging by these initial images, the results are fantastic.

The precision in the molding is immediately apparent. This isn’t just another model; it’s a dedicated effort to capture the density of detail present in the in-game 3D models, something that is clearly thanks to the thorough supervision by From Software themselves. Seeing the intricate skeletal structure visible through the armor gaps on this larger scale—approximately 27 cm tall—is exactly what I look for in high-end mecha kits.

This specific configuration, the Close-Range Assault Type, comes equipped with the distinctive VP-46D arms and the fearsome SG-027 ZIMMERMAN shotgun. It’s clear this kit has been modified from the previous ‘Steel Haze’ tooling, specifically re-molded in the corporate standard light grey color scheme for the SCHNEIDER NACHTREIHER standard unit. The new tooling for the weapon and arms is crucial for authenticity.

Engineering for Dynamic Posing

Articulation is key for any good mecha kit, and KOTOBUKIYA seems to have poured significant effort into the articulation here. The chest features a pull-out joint that allows the upper torso to fold down deeply, enabling superb, grounded combat stances. Furthermore, the core back section can be switched out to display the extended state, adding another layer of display dynamism.

The accessory loadout is well-considered, including the signature MA-E-211 SAMPU pistol, ALULA/21E boosters, and replaceable hands. Even the energy weaponry, like the Vvc-703PM shoulder missile launcher and the Vvc-774LS laser blade, feature parts that can be swapped to show firing or deployed states. This commitment to showcasing the machine’s full capabilities straight out of the box is highly appreciated.

What excites me most about the V.I.O.S. concept is the adoption of a common joint standard across the line. This means that future releases will allow us to mix and match components and weaponry exactly like we do in the game—a true realization of the Armored Core customization ethos in physical model form.
