S.H.Figuarts ボディくん -杉森建- Edition-ワイヤーフレーム-(Gray Color Ver.) is a drawing-mannequin action figure from TAMASHII NATIONS, the collectibles division of BANDAI SPIRITS. It’s built with Ken Sugimori (杉森建), the Game Freak co-founder who designed the original 151 Pokémon. It’s listed for August 2026 at 5,500 yen (appx. $36). The boys finally got their turn.
This is a 13 cm (appx. 5.1 in) posable figure for artists, printed with a black reference grid. It is made by BANDAI SPIRITS under the TAMASHII NATIONS label. The release window is August 2026, and the reference price is 5,500 yen (appx. $36).
Sugimori’s Frame, Not a Generic One
The sculpt follows a body framework Sugimori drew himself, and that’s the whole pitch. His Pokémon work runs on clean, readable silhouettes, and this Body-Kun keeps that economy: a lean torso, narrow hips, and just enough shoulder to read as a teenage boy rather than a superhero. It’s restrained. That youthful build suits an artist whose most famous humans are ten-year-old trainers.
Gray Plastic, Black Grid
There’s no gradient work here, and that’s correct. The flat gray finish kills glare under a desk lamp, while the printed black grid wraps the limbs and chest so you can read foreshortening at a glance. A curved square on the forearm tells you more about perspective than any shading would. Smart choice.
Thirty Joints and Five Pairs of Hands
The figure carries 30 points of articulation, plus five pairs of swap hands and a dedicated stand. Against Max Factory’s figma archetype line, the benchmark for desk mannequins, the S.H.Figuarts engineering usually hides its joints better, which matters when the grid has to stay continuous. I’ll be watching the elbow and knee cuts closely. Breaks in the grid would hurt.
Built as a Pair
It launches alongside the matching Body-Chan Ken Sugimori Edition Wireframe, and the two are meant to pose together. For anyone drawing two-figure scenes, that’s the real draw. The open question is availability. Neither a pre-order date nor an overseas price has been confirmed, and we’ll update this when that changes.
The Collector’s Survival Guide: How to Justify This
The Collector Math: Ken Sugimori drew all 151 original Pokémon, and Body-Kun is built on his own drawing frame for 5,500 yen. That’s about 36 yen per Pokémon, while one Poké Ball costs 200 and can still miss. My credit card has a 100% catch rate.
How to tell your wife: Ken Sugimori designed Body-Kun to pose with his matching Body-Chan. Buying only one would split up a couple on their very first day, and I’m not that kind of man. I’m buying two because I believe in love.
How to tell your parents: In Pokémon, ten-year-olds leave home with one Pokémon and walk across the entire region. Your grown son’s big adventure this year is a 13-centimeter figure that never leaves his desk. Ash’s mom would trade places with you instantly.
How to tell your kids: This is Body-Kun, and he came with five spare pairs of hands, so he never needs yours. Look at him and draw him all you want, but if your hand starts reaching, remember Professor Oak’s rule. There’s a time and place for everything, but not now.
Plenty of drawing mannequins exist, but very few carry the proportions of the person who taught a generation what a Pokémon trainer looks like. For 5,500 yen, Body-Kun earns a desk spot if you actually draw, and a shelf spot if Sugimori’s line work shaped your childhood.
