Frame Arms DURGA I DARKNESS QUEEN Ver. Collectible Figure by Kotobukiya

Kotobukiya turns its Frame Arms Girl Durga into a painted, 24 cm figure caught mid-disarmament and still taunting you, for $180 with a mid-2027 ship window.

The DURGA I DARKNESS QUEEN Ver. Collectible Figure by Kotobukiya is up for pre-order now, and it’s one of the Frame Arms Girl pieces I’ve been hoping for. It’s priced at $180 and expected to ship between June and August 2027. Kotobukiya took a character who started life as a plastic model kit and gave her the full painted-figure treatment.

The DURGA I DARKNESS QUEEN Ver. Collectible Figure is a non-scale PVC, ABS and magnet figure from Kotobukiya’s Frame Arms Girl line, part of the Frame Arms brand. It stands 24 cm (appx. 9.61 in) tall and is sculpted by jonji. It costs $180, is expected to ship June to August 2027 with possible delays through November 2027, and carries a limit of 6 per person.

The Moment She’s Frozen In

The pose comes straight from a specific idea: Durga driven to the verge of disarmament, armor half gone, and still taunting whoever’s looking at her. I love that choice. Frame Arms Girls are built around their weapons and armor, so stripping some of it away while keeping that smirk tells you more about her personality than a full-armor battle pose would. She’s losing the fight and acting like she’s winning it, which is exactly the energy you want from someone called the Darkness Queen.

What the Kit Couldn’t Do

Kotobukiya points to the one thing the model kit version never really managed: soft-looking skin. Styrene kits give you crisp panels, but skin tends to read flat and seamy, and this PVC figure is clearly meant to fix that. The hair is sculpted in finer strands than a snap-fit kit allows, and jonji has room to let the locks overlap instead of splitting them into neat, buildable chunks. That contrast between soft skin and hard plating is what makes a Frame Arms Girl work, and here both halves finally get equal care.

Metallic Paint and the Benchmark Question

The armor gets metallic paintwork, which matters a lot for a mecha-girl design where the plating is half the silhouette. I’d put the goal in the same neighborhood as Alter’s painted figures, where the metal reads as metal and the skin reads warm, without the two bleeding together. Since what’s shown is a prototype, I’m reserving judgment on how clean the final gradients come out, but Kotobukiya has years of practice painting its own Frame Arms designs.

Armor On, Armor Off

The engineering detail I keep coming back to is the hip armor. The right side attaches with a magnet, and the left uses a removable peg, so you can take the armor off and display her with or without it. That fits the half-disarmed concept perfectly: you decide how close to defeat she looks on any given week. It also nods to the kit roots, where swapping parts was the whole point.

The Collector’s Survival Guide: How to Justify This

The Collector Math: Everyone warns that this hobby costs an arm and a leg. Kotobukiya’s line is literally called Frame Arms, and for $180 this queen comes with two arms and two legs, so that’s $45 a limb. For once, I’m the one getting the arm and the leg.

How to tell your wife: Sideshow won’t ship the Darkness Queen until summer 2027, so technically this is future me’s purchase, not mine. You married future me too; it’s right there in the vows. For better or for worse, babe.

How to tell your parents: Dad, you always said every grown-up should know a little plumbing. Kotobukiya built the Darkness Queen out of ABS and PVC, the same two plastics running under your kitchen sink. Consider her my first plumbing lesson.

How to tell your kids: This is the Darkness Queen, so every dark spot in this house is hers now, even under your bed. No monster is brave enough to hide on a queen’s turf. Touch her even once, and she quits the night shift.

I think this one earns its shelf space for the hip armor alone, because the magnet-and-peg setup turns the half-disarmed pose into something you can actually play with. If you’ve ever built a Frame Arms Girl kit and wished the skin looked softer, this is the version I’d watch, and we’ll update this when final production images land.
