S.H.MonsterArts Releases “Godzilla (2023) Desaturated Ver.” Figure: A Monochromatic Homage to the King of Monsters
S.H.MonsterArts, known for its exquisitely detailed monster models, is set to release a unique “Godzilla (2023) Desaturated Ver.” figure, capturing the essence of Godzilla in a monochromatic style reminiscent of classic black and white films. This articulated figure, meticulously crafted by the renowned monster modeler Yuji Sakai, stands approximately 16 cm (about 6.3 inches) tall and features Godzilla’s robust body, rough skin texture, and coral-like dorsal fins.
The figure’s grayscale color scheme is a homage to the desaturated version of “Godzilla-1.0/C,” a movie where Godzilla was originally a deep-sea creature known as “Gojira” by the residents of Odo Island, around Odo Island. Initially around 15 meters tall, the beast displayed an extraordinary ability to regenerate and was immune to conventional weaponry. It first appeared in 1945, attacking Japanese military forces that invaded its territory. The 1946 nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll mutated Gojira into Godzilla, a massive 50-meter-tall monster with exaggerated regenerative abilities capable of emitting a nuclear-level heat ray from its mouth.
The “Godzilla (2023) Desaturated Ver.” from S.H.MonsterArts is a grayscale version that pays tribute to the movie’s black-and-white aesthetic. The figure incorporates multiple articulation points, including the lower jaw, neck, body, limbs, and tail, allowing for dynamic posing. This release marks the first time in the series that each toe is individually articulated, enabling the recreation of scenes where Godzilla’s massive feet crush the ground.
