Bandai is finally dropping the HG 1/144 Messer M01 Type Gawman Nobel Custom and my wallet is already crying

Alright, fellow plastic addicts, listen up! Just when I thought my shelf space had reached its absolute limit, BANDAI SPIRITS goes and announces this absolute unit. From the movie Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway (specifically the ‘Witch of Circe’ arc), we are finally getting the HG 1/144 Messer M01 Type (Gawman Nobel Custom)! I mean, look at this chunky boy—it’s got more presence than my entire ‘to-be-built’ backlog combined.

Now, if you’re like me and obsess over the lore, you’ll know this isn’t just some lazy recolor of the Messer Type F. The M01 Type comes from a completely different production line for the Mafty organization. Because our boy Gawman Nobel (also known as Gauman Nobil) lost his Type F and had to hop into this one in a rush, the kit actually replicates that iconic unpainted grey armor on the left shoulder. It’s those little ‘in-universe’ imperfections that really get my gears turning!

Bandai is really flexing with the parts separation here. We’re talking almost entirely new armor molds to capture that distinct silhouette. The color palette is a gorgeous mix of sand yellow and red earth tones, perfectly capturing that gritty, guerrilla warfare vibe. Plus, they included a transparent purple piece for the chest sensor and separate yellow parts for the vents and thrusters. No stickers for those? Yes, please!

While the beam rifle looks like it’s borrowed from the previous release, the shield is a brand-new mold. The articulation on these newer HG (High Grade) kits has been insane lately, and despite the Messer’s massive bulk, it looks like it’ll be able to pull off some surprisingly dynamic poses. I’m already imagining this beast stomping through a desert diorama on my desk.

Mark your calendars for May 2026. Yeah, I know, that feels like a lifetime away, but hey, it gives us more time to convince our significant others that we ‘definitely’ need more space for giant robots. Stay hydrated and keep building!
