There’s a unique satisfaction in seeing a character’s lesser-known, yet pivotal, look translated into a high-end collectible. This new MAFEX offering from Medicom Toy truly understands that appeal, focusing on a specific narrative moment. It promises a tangible piece of cinematic storytelling for our shelves.
Medicom Toy’s popular MAFEX line introduces the No.310 MAFEX Aquaman (Stealth Suit) from the film “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” This action figure will retail for 14,040 JPY (approx. $90 USD) and is scheduled for release in January 2027.
The King’s Likeness, Unmasked
Kyoichi Shimazaki’s head sculpt work here captures Jason Momoa’s recognizable features with precision. You see the actor’s intense gaze and powerful jawline, even across three distinct expressions. The sculpt truly conveys the rugged determination of Arthur Curry.
Tactical Elegance, Articulated
The “stealth suit” itself is a fascinating choice, reflecting a critical plot point in the film where Aquaman needs to operate covertly. Masato Ohata and PERFECT-STUDIO have sculpted Aquaman’s imposing physique beneath the uniform with careful attention. The suit’s subtle green glow effect, seen in promotional stills, has also been realized through thoughtful paint application, giving it that otherworldly Atlantean luminescence.
This isn’t just a simple repaint; the figure’s design shows its purpose. It’s built for those tense infiltration scenes, where agility matters more than flashy armor. We’re looking at a figure designed to pose dynamically, embodying movement even when static.
An Arsenal for Atlantean Infiltration
The accessories included provide solid versatility. Beyond the three interchangeable head sculpts, you get a generous array of hands to capture various gestures and grip the armaments. Aquaman’s iconic trident is present, of course, alongside a combat short staff, perfect for close-quarters engagements.
Poseability looks excellent, as expected from the MAFEX line. Pairing the provided display stand with the various weapons means you’ll be able to recreate quite a few dramatic moments from the movie. It’s always good to have options for dynamic displays, keeping your collection feeling fresh.
The Collector’s Survival Guide: How to Justify This
The Collector Math: At 14,040 JPY, this Aquaman figure isn’t an impulse buy, but consider the exceptional likeness from Kyoichi Shimazaki and the specific green paint finish. Compared to a high-quality dinner out, this figure offers lasting artistic appreciation and display value for years to come. That’s a solid return on investment for something you’ll enjoy daily.
How to tell your wife: Honey, this is the stealth suit version of Aquaman, so it’s actually a completely different aesthetic than his main gold armor. The way the green glow effect is painted, it almost looks like underwater bioluminescence. It’s a very unique piece, quite artful really.
How to tell your parents: You know how I appreciate craftsmanship, and this Aquaman figure is a prime example of sculptural artistry. The detail on Jason Momoa’s face, sculpted by Kyoichi Shimazaki, is remarkable. It’s essentially a miniature sculpture, capturing an actor’s performance in three dimensions.
How to tell your kids: This is Aquaman’s secret spy suit; he wears it when he has to go somewhere nobody can see him. See how his trident can be held perfectly in his hand? It’s not for playing with roughly, but you can definitely look at him whenever you want.
Medicom Toy’s MAFEX line consistently delivers character specificity and a satisfying array of accessories. This Aquaman (Stealth Suit) figure looks to continue that trend, offering a unique and compelling rendition of the Atlantean king that earns its spot in a dedicated collection.
