Well, here we are again. I swore to myself this was going to be the month I held back, the month I exercised some genuine fiscal restraint. It was ‘the big lie’ I told my budget, a solemn vow to only admire from afar. And then, BANDAI SPIRITS’ TAMASHII NATIONS had to go and unveil this: the S.H.Figuarts Ultraman Zearth. All bets are off, my friends; this one is simply too good to pass up. It’s slated for a July 2026 release, giving us plenty of time to mentally prepare for its spotless arrival.
For those unfamiliar with this particular hero, Ultraman Zearth is a delightful anomaly from the 1996 film that celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Ultraman series. Far from the typical stoic hero, Zearth hails from the Z95 Nebula’s ‘Land of Light’ but carries a wonderfully quirky personality. While possessing excellent athletic prowess, he’s famously timid and, more notably, suffers from a severe, almost debilitating, case of mysophobia. His mission to Earth? To cleanse its polluted environment. He transforms into his mighty form from his human guise, 24-year-old Katsuto Asahi, by —wait for it— brushing his teeth with a ‘Sparkle Electric Toothbrush’ (閃光電動牙刷) before joining the ultra-cosmic defense agency ‘Mydo’ disguised as a gas station. It’s pure, unadulterated charm and humor.

This S.H.Figuarts Ultraman Zearth figure looks to be a masterful rendition, standing at an approximate height of 15 cm (appx. 5.91 inch). The sculpt has been meticulously crafted with the assistance of Tsuburaya Productions’ LSS modeling department and Mr. Jyo Narita (成田穰), who was responsible for the original suit production. This collaboration ensures an authentic recreation of Zearth’s distinctive suit from the film, complete with its sharply defined red and white patterns. What truly excites me, beyond the faithful aesthetics, is the promise of its articulation. The design boasts seamless movable joints that minimize visual breaks, combined with precise segmentation and numerous pull-out joints. This thoughtful engineering means we’ll be able to pose Zearth in those dynamic, action-packed stances without compromising his clean silhouette.

The attention to detail extends to the accessories, which are, frankly, brilliant. The figure comes equipped with a variety of interchangeable hands and a vibrant red-light Color Timer, allowing for a range of expressive displays. But the true highlight must be the inclusion of his signature attack effect part: the ‘Specium Shower Ray’ (斯佩修修拉光線). What’s more, the accessory set will also allow collectors to recreate some of Zearth’s most iconic and humorous moments, like his frantic hand-washing after getting dirty or his awkward struggle when stepping into mud. It’s these specific, character-defining inclusions that elevate a good figure to a truly memorable one.

Adding another layer of excitement, TAMASHII NATIONS has also subtly hinted at the future release of Zearth’s ultimate adversary. From the shadowed silhouette provided, it’s clear we’ll soon be able to add the combat robot ‘Ultraman Shadow’ (超人力霸王暗影), who first appeared in the sequel film ‘Ultraman Zearth 2: A Battle of Light and Shadow’ (超人大戰・光與影), to our collections. The thought of pairing these two formidable (and fantastically designed) rivals on display is utterly irresistible.

The Collector’s Survival Guide: How to Justify This
Let’s be honest, we all need a compelling argument when a must-have piece like Ultraman Zearth pops up. Here are a few ‘tactical justifications’ I’ve been refining:
- How to tell wife why you need this: “Darling, its pristine white and striking red hues will introduce an essential element of modern Japanese aesthetic to our living space, perfectly balancing the feng shui. Think of it less as a toy, more as an avant-garde ceramic vase… that can fight.”
- How to tell parents: “This isn’t just a figure; it’s a meticulously engineered representation of pop culture history and cinematic design, embodying precision manufacturing techniques. It’s a study in form and function, a tangible asset that appreciates cultural value. Much like a very small, very clean, robot.”
- How to tell kids: “Children, this is a masterpiece of visual inspiration. Observe its perfect lines and vibrant colors—a tribute to cleanliness and heroism. It’s for looking, for appreciating artistry. Do not, under any circumstances, touch it with sticky hands or any hands for that matter. Unless those hands are also Ultraman Zearth’s.”
