The S.H.Figuarts Body-chan -Ken Sugimori- Edition Wireframe (Gray Color Ver.) is a poseable drawing mannequin from BANDAI SPIRITS’ Tamashii Nations, built on the body frame drawn by Pokémon designer Ken Sugimori (杉森建). It’s priced at JPY 5,500 (appx. $36) and scheduled for August 2026. It’s a reference tool first and a collectible second, and I like that it doesn’t pretend otherwise.

This is a 13 cm (appx. 5.1 in) figure in the S.H.Figuarts Body-kun/Body-chan line, made by Tamashii Nations under BANDAI SPIRITS. It ships with five pairs of swap hands, a stand, and 30 points of articulation. The listed release is August 2026 at JPY 5,500.

The Man Behind the Frame

Sugimori is a founding member of Game Freak. He designed the original 151 Pokémon on his own and served for years as the series’ art director, with Pulseman also on his résumé. His line work is clean and economical, and that habit is the whole pitch here. One artist’s proportions, now in plastic.

Four Heads Tall, On Purpose

The sculpt translates his roughly four-heads-tall girl into 3D, which is a far cry from the eight-head fashion proportions most art mannequins default to. That matters for anyone drawing in a cute, game-sprite register. A standard mannequin would force you to shrink limbs in your head. This one already did the math. The volumes stay soft and rounded, the way his sketches read on paper.

The Grid Is the Paint Job

There’s no gradient work here, and that’s correct. The flat gray body exists so the printed wireframe lines read cleanly from any angle, letting you track how a curve wraps around a thigh or shoulder when you foreshorten a pose. Gradients would muddy those lines. It’s a reference finish, not a showpiece finish.

Articulation and the Benchmark

Thirty points of articulation plus five pairs of hands is generous at this size. The obvious comparison is Max Factory’s figma Archetype line, long the standard among artists for poseable reference bodies. Archetype gives you neutral anatomy. Body-chan gives you a specific artist’s anatomy. Pair it with the matching Body-kun Ken Sugimori Edition Wireframe for two-figure compositions.

The Collector’s Survival Guide: How to Justify This

The Collector Math: In Pokémon Red and Blue, the Cerulean City bike shop wants a million for one bicycle. Ken Sugimori drew that game, and his own drawing model is only 5,500 yen, so one Kanto bike would buy me 181 of her. By Kanto prices, she’s practically free.

How to tell your wife: She’s 13 centimeters of gray, printed head to toe with a grid, and Bandai sells her as a drawing aid. By any honest definition, that’s graph paper with thirty joints. Nobody has ever slept on the couch over graph paper.

How to tell your parents: You always said Pokémon would never get anyone a real job. Ken Sugimori drew all 151 originals and helped found Game Freak, and this figure is built on his own body sketches. For 5,500 yen, that’s the cheapest art school in Kanto.

How to tell your kids: This is Body-chan, built from sketches by the man who drew Pikachu, so Pokémon rules apply. You can look at her anytime, but her five pairs of hands are key items, and only Dad uses key items. There’s a time and place for everything, but not now.

The smartest choice Tamashii Nations made was trusting one artist’s four-head body instead of averaging it into generic anatomy. If you draw anything in Sugimori’s orbit, it’s an honest tool at a fair price, and that’s rarer on a shelf than another statue.
