Magic Knight Rayearth Umi Ryuuzaki Collectible Figure by Kotobukiya

Kotobukiya's 1:7 scale Umi Ryuuzaki, sculpted by HIDE, rides a translucent water splash base and ships Jul to Dec 2027 for $185.

Umi Ryuuzaki Collectible Figure by Kotobukiya

Kotobukiya has opened pre-orders for the Umi Ryuuzaki Collectible Figure by Kotobukiya, a 1:7 scale figure of the blue Magic Knight from CLAMP’s Magic Knight Rayearth. It’s priced at $185 and expected to ship between July and December 2027. I’ll admit I grinned when I saw that water splash base, because it’s exactly the right call for Umi.

The Umi Ryuuzaki Collectible Figure is a 1:7 scale PVC, ABS, metal and acrylic figure made by Kotobukiya and sculpted by HIDE. It stands 26 cm (appx. 10.24 in) tall and costs $185 (appx. $185 USD). The expected ship window is July 2027 to December 2027, with a limit of six per person.

A Sword, a Stare and a Lot of Hair

Umi gets a dignified pose here, sword raised, gaze steady, which suits the proud fencing champion from Tokyo far better than a cute idle stance would. HIDE pushes her hair and skirt wide, and that spread is where most of the sculpt volume lives. It’s what makes the figure read as a frozen moment from a fight instead of a girl politely posing for a camera. For a character whose whole arc is learning that pride and kindness can share a body, I like that the face stays calm while everything around her moves.

The Water Base Is the Real Headline

Umi is the Magic Knight of water, so a base with translucent splash parts that rise like a current is the obvious move, and Kotobukiya actually commits to it. Clear parts like these live or die on how clean the edges are, and if production holds the prototype’s look, the base alone will justify a lot of that $185. It also gives the figure a real footprint, which matters when you’re lining her up on a shelf. I’d still wait for final production photos, because the prototype disclaimer is there for a reason.

Paint Separation and Texture

Kotobukiya says the outfit and accessories use delicate gradations and precise color separation to show different textures, and that’s the detail I keep coming back to. Umi’s armor, cloth and hair all need to look like different materials, not one glossy blue plastic. At its best, this kind of finish lands in the same conversation as Alter’s anime scale work, where paint does as much storytelling as the sculpt. Kotobukiya isn’t always at that level, but the gradations in these shots look promising.

Pairing Her With Hikaru

Hikaru Shidou is sold separately in the same lineup, which tells you where this is heading. Rayearth fans will want the trio eventually, and nobody’s announced Fuu yet. I’m watching for that, and we’ll update this when there’s news.

The Collector’s Survival Guide: How to Justify This

The Collector Math: The Magic Knights’ weapons are forged from Escudo, the legendary metal of Cephiro. Kotobukiya lists metal right on Umi’s spec sheet, next to ABS, PVC and acrylic, and the whole figure is only $185. That’s legendary metal at plastic prices.

How to tell your wife: In Cephiro, the entire world is held up by one person’s heart, and that person is called the Pillar. When the Pillar’s heart is troubled, the whole world starts to crumble, and mine has been troubled since I saw this $185 Umi. Babe, I’m the pillar of this family.

How to tell your parents: Mom, Umi got a magic sword, shining armor and her own giant sea dragon, and she still kept saying she wanted to go home to her parents. She’ll stand on my shelf reminding me of that every single day. That’s $185 for a son who visits more.

How to tell your kids: This is Umi, the Magic Knight of water, and every Magic Knight is guided by Mokona, who answers every question with one word: puu. You can look at her all day, but touching her needs Mokona’s permission. Puu means no.

I think Umi earns her shelf space mainly on that translucent water base and HIDE’s wide-swept hair, which together sell the battle moment better than most 1:7 figures at this price. Wait for production shots if you’re cautious, but this looks like the strongest Rayearth piece announced in years.
