The Gengar Diorama by Sideshow Collectibles is a Pokémon polystone piece that puts Gastly, Haunter and Gengar together under one twisted tree. It’s priced at $645 and is expected to ship between Nov 2027 and Feb 2028. I’ll be honest, a full ghost evolution line in one scene is the kind of idea I’ve wanted from a Western studio for years.
The Gengar Diorama by Sideshow Collectibles is a polystone Pokémon diorama made by Sideshow Collectibles, featuring Gastly, Haunter and Gengar. It measures 14.5 in (appx. 37 cm) tall and costs $645. Pre-orders are open now, with shipping expected from Nov 2027 to Feb 2028 and a limit of 2 per person.
The Lavender Town Mood, Bottled
Any fan who watched the early anime remembers Ash heading into the Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town and getting pranked by this exact trio. Gastly does the talking, Haunter does the hands, and Gengar does the grinning, and that pecking order is what this scene seems to be built around. Sideshow’s design team gives them crooked branches and trailing fog to burst out of, which matches how those three always showed up: all at once, mid-joke. I like that it reads as a gag scene, not a horror poster.

Three Ghosts, Three Kinds of Sculpt
The hard part here is that these three have almost nothing in common physically. Gastly is a ball wrapped in gas, Haunter is a floating torso with detached hands, and Gengar is a solid, squat body with spikes. Getting fog to read as fog in polystone is tricky, because it can easily look like a gray blob, so the phantasmal trails are the detail I’ll be studying when final production shots appear. The prototype keeps the characters in their animated series colors, and that’s the right call for a trio whose charm is pure cartoon mischief.
Paint, Bark and Moss
The environment is where the money seems to go. Sideshow describes stony textures and mossy tree bark, and that natural finish sets the flat, bright purples of the ghosts against something gritty. Prime 1 Studio is the benchmark I’d compare this approach to, since they’re known for weathered bases that make clean characters pop. If Sideshow keeps the moss subtle and the purples saturated, the contrast will do most of the storytelling for you.

Footprint and Shelf Planning
At 14.5 in tall, 9.19 in wide and 9.35 in deep, this is a squarish block rather than a tall, thin statue. You’ll want a shelf with real depth, and I’d lean toward one where you can light it from the side, because the tree branches will throw great shadows, which feels appropriate for Gengar. Sideshow notes this is a prototype, so final details may shift, and we’ll update this when production images land.

The Collector’s Survival Guide: How to Justify This
The Collector Math: In the games, Haunter only evolves into Gengar if you trade him to a friend and trust them to send him back. This diorama gives me Gastly, Haunter and Gengar for $645, which is $215 a ghost and zero friendships at risk. My cousin still hasn’t sent my Haunter back.
How to tell your wife: Honey, every kid who ever played Pokémon knows Ghost types are completely immune to Normal-type moves. And ‘you spent $645 on a cartoon ghost?’ is about the most Normal-type move there is. It doesn’t affect Gengar…
How to tell your parents: Dad, you spent my whole childhood guarding the thermostat like it was gold. The Pokédex says a hiding Gengar cools the room by nearly ten degrees, so I just bought $645 of central air that never touches the electric bill. Close the door, Dad, you’re letting the Gengar out.
How to tell your kids: This is Gastly, Haunter and Gengar, and all three know a move called Lick that stops you in your tracks. You may look at them all day, but you may not touch them, and you may not lick the frosting spoon either. Lick is a Ghost-type move.

This piece earns its shelf space if you grew up on that Lavender Town tower, because no single Gengar figure can tell the whole prank the way three ghosts and a crooked tree do. I’m watching for the final paint on the fog trails, since that’s what will decide whether $645 feels like a scene or just a sculpture.
