The Sadako Bishoujo Statue by Kotobukiya puts Sadako Yamamura, the girl from the well and the cursed videotape, into the HORROR BISHOUJO line. It’s priced at USD 160 and is expected to ship between June and August 2027. I’ve been waiting for Kotobukiya to get to her, and I like how literally they took the tape.
The Sadako Bishoujo Statue is a 6.69 in (17 cm) statue of Sadako Yamamura made by Kotobukiya and designed by Shunya Yamashita. It is expected to ship from June 2027 to August 2027, with arrival estimates running through November 2027. The price is USD 160, with a limit of 6 per person.
Where She Fits in HORROR BISHOUJO
The HORROR BISHOUJO line has always worked the same trick: take a horror figure everyone knows and run it through a pin-up illustrator’s hand without losing the scare. Shunya Yamashita is back on design duty here, and his job on Sadako is harder than usual, because her signature look is that you can’t see her face at all. What’s new for her is how much of the scene comes in the box, since this isn’t just a girl on a base but a girl floating over a pile of VHS cassettes.

Two Faces, Your Choice of Fear Level
The default display has that long black hair falling straight over her face, which is the pose any J-horror fan expects. Swap in the replacement part and a single eye peeks out from under the hair, and Kotobukiya describes the expression as lonely rather than menacing. That’s the version I keep coming back to, because it turns her from a jump scare into a sad kid stuck in a well, which is honestly closer to the heart of the story.
The Wet Dress and the Red Nails
Her white dress uses clear parts so it reads like thin fabric soaked through with well water, with skin showing underneath. That’s an ambitious effect at 17 cm in PVC and ABS, the kind of thing I usually associate with the water work on far pricier Prime 1 Studio pieces, so I’m curious how the final production paint compares with the prototype photos. The fingernails and toenails are painted red to show they were torn up from clawing at the well walls, and from a distance it almost passes for a manicure, which is exactly the kind of dark joke Yamashita’s style is good at.

Unspooled Tape You Get to Arrange
The base is a pile of videotapes with tape pushed out of the cassettes, and you can arrange that loose tape however you like around her. Kotobukiya also includes two spare rolls packed inside a little VHS-styled box, so you decide how messy the scene gets. And there’s something different hidden among the tapes that the maker isn’t naming yet, which is a fun move for a franchise built on not knowing what’s on the tape.

The Collector’s Survival Guide: How to Justify This
The Collector Math: In The Ring, Sadako gives you exactly seven days’ notice. Kotobukiya gives me 224 days until she ships in June 2027, which is thirty-two rounds of seven days at $5 a round. Nobody in that movie ever got terms this good.
How to tell your wife: In The Ring, the only way to break Sadako’s curse is to make a copy and show it to someone else. I already stared at her Sideshow page for an hour, so I had no choice but to order two. Happy anniversary, babe.
How to tell your parents: Mom, you spent my whole childhood telling me to get my hair out of my eyes. Sadako never listened, and she’s been crawling around ever since. You were right, and it only cost me $160 to admit it.
How to tell your kids: This is Sadako, and she climbs out of TVs, which is exactly why ours goes off at bedtime. You can look at her on the shelf all you want, because a shelf doesn’t have a screen. Feel free to ask her for five more minutes.

For $160 you’re getting a Yamashita design with a real choice of mood, clear-part dress work and a tape base you can actually play with, which is more scene than most statues this size give you. I’ll be watching how the wet-dress effect survives the jump from prototype to production, and we’ll update this when more details land.
