Arakawa Hiromu, the celebrated ‘Cow Mom’ behind *Fullmetal Alchemist* and *Silver Spoon*, brings her unique wit to the autobiographical manga *Hyakushou Kizoku*. Now, collector eyes are turning to the upcoming sofubi release that captures her farming roots in three dimensions, poised to claim a prime spot on shelves.
Loop’ is producing the Hyakushou Kizoku Sofubi Arakawa Hiromu Type A (Smiling Face) and Type B (Whistling Face). These figures stand approximately 20 cm tall and are priced at 5,940 JPY each, with an estimated release in August 2026.
The Character’s Undeniable Charm
Hyakushou Kizoku isn’t just a memoir; it’s a deep dive into Hokkaido farming life, complete with battles against bears and lessons in manure management. This sofubi doesn’t just represent Arakawa-sensei; it embodies the pragmatic, slightly unhinged spirit of the agricultural lifestyle she so vividly portrays. The figure’s simple design actually enhances its narrative power. It lets the expressions do most of the talking.
Sculpting Personality in Vinyl
Both the Type A and Type B models stand about 7.87 inches tall, a comfortable size for any display. Type A’s enigmatic smile, subtly hidden behind those signature reflective glasses, perfectly channels the wry humor so central to the series. The mouth on Type B, puckered into a distinct “3” for whistling, offers a relaxed yet subtly mischievous pose, hinting at a farmer’s quiet contemplation or perhaps a lighthearted jab. Each design captures an authentic ‘Cow Mom’ moment.
Thoughtful Design and Practicality
These sofubi pieces feature articulation at the neck and both arms, a simple touch that adds a surprising amount of poseability for figures of this type. Collectors won’t be staging dynamic battles, but you can certainly adjust her stance to better reflect the mood of your collection or match other display pieces. It’s a smart choice, giving just enough control without overcomplicating the aesthetic. This level of interaction feels just right.
A Niche, Beautifully Filled
Bringing a manga author’s autobiographical persona to life as a sofubi is a niche move, yet a brilliant one for fans of Arakawa Hiromu. This figure transcends a mere collectible; it’s a tangible piece of the creative journey behind some of Japan’s most beloved stories. Loop’ clearly understands the deep appeal here. They’ve delivered a piece that resonates deeply with *Hyakushou Kizoku* devotees, destined to sit proudly among other treasured works.
The Collector’s Survival Guide: How to Justify This
The Collector Math: Arakawa Hiromu details years of farming wisdom, from milking cows to fighting bears, for $5.99 a volume. For 5,940 JPY, I’m getting 20 cm of solid, articulated agricultural knowledge, which is less than 300 JPY per centimeter of pure wisdom. That’s a steal compared to what I spend on organic vegetables.
How to tell your wife: You know how much I love practical things around the house? This 20 cm sofubi of Arakawa Hiromu serves as a daily reminder of agricultural self-sufficiency and resourcefulness. It’s essentially a motivational speaker, but quieter and with a whistling face.
How to tell your parents: You always said I should learn more about where my food comes from. This sofubi represents Arakawa Hiromu, a farmer who teaches me about agricultural science through humor. It’s a fun, tangible educational tool that encourages lifelong learning.
How to tell your kids: This is Cow Mom, a very important farmer who makes excellent manga. She’s smiling because she knows who finished all the milk, and her 20 cm stature means she can see right into your cereal bowl. Don’t touch her arms or neck, or she might tell on you.
Loop’ has delivered a charming and character-accurate representation of Arakawa Hiromu as the Hyakushou Kizoku. For fans who appreciate the blend of humor and harsh realities in her work, either the smiling or whistling face will be a worthy, conversation-starting centerpiece.
